I am discovering that my experience at church for all my life was a high privilege. I happen to learn through auditory means. Church in the 60s and 70s was musical. We sang songs out of a hymnbook titled "Melodies of Praise". We sang many of the verses. The writer's of these songs, like many of the writers of Christian music today, focused on the Gospel message. It's a powerful means to convey the best news in the world. Often, I want to believe by the Spirit, I'll here a phrase in my head that I haven't thought of or heard in years. Today it's this: "Like the cruse of oil unfailing is His grace forever more, and His love unchanging still..." It comes from the song "Bring Your Vessels Not a Few" written by Mrs. C.H. Morris. (thanks to www.hymnary.org). Here are all the verses about vessels.
1 Are you looking for the fullness of the blessing of the lord In your heart and life today? Claim the promise of your Father, come according to His word, in the blessed old time way. Chorus: He will fill your heart today to overflowing, As the Lord commandeth you, "Bring your vessels, not a few;" He will fill your heart today to overflowing With the Holy Ghost and pow'r. 2 Bring your empty earthen vessels, clean thro' Jesus' precious blood, Come, ye needy, one and all; And in human consecration wait before the throne of God, 'Till the Holy Ghost shall fall. (Chorus) 3 Like the cruse of oil unfailing is His grace forevermore, And His love unchanging still; And according to His promise with the Holy Ghost and pow'r, He will ev'ry vessel fill. (Chorus) Praise God! var refTagger = { settings: { bibleVersion: "ESV" } }; (function(d, t) { var g = d.createElement(t), s = d.getElementsByTagName(t)[0]; g.src = '//api.reftagger.com/v2/RefTagger.js'; s.parentNode.insertBefore(g, s); }(document, 'script'));
