The Bible is full of one verse wonders. The book of John has one such verse and clearly presents Jesus as alive and worthy of our belief. We know that Peter, James & John were disciples of Jesus. We expect that they would have a first hand knowledge of what Jesus was like while He walked on the earth. Our familiarity with this can oftentimes cloud our view of Scripture. Sometimes we simply don't notice the power in one verse that conveys a significant truth. John 21:24 is one of those verses. After John has told us of all the "belief" incidents throughout the life and ministry of Jesus and after he tells of his purpose in John 20:30-31, he simply tells us: John 21:24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true. There it is. A declaration of fact. THIS IS THE DISCIPLE. John identifies himself. WHO TESTIFIES TO THESE THINGS. He is claiming truthfulness. AND WHO WROTE THEM DOWN John claims authorship. WE KNOW HIS TESTIMONY IS TRUE. Authentic testimony. Sometimes, all you can do is simply state the facts. We can take confidence in God's word because the authors witnessed the events and declared them to be true.
