There is a distinction in the Bible between law and grace. They are not opposed to each other as many think. The first 5 books of the Old Testament are referred to as Torah or Law. When God in His mercy and grace delivered His people out of Egypt, He gave the law (Deuteronomy 6:1-9) so they could respond to that grace. The law to the Jews of the Old Testament was the expression of God's love and mercy. (Psalm 119) Grace is the effect of Christ's work on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-9). The epistles of Paul show that the Grace of God comes first, then the holy living. (Ephesians 2:12-22). Because of the love of God we are privileged to serve Him. John alluded to this in John 20:30-31. Life and that more abundantly! Praise God!
