Most bank deposits are now electronic. They are guarded by secure servers connected by high speed networks, super-complicated rolling passwords and cloud systems that rotate pulses around the world. Guarding is familiar language. When Paul wrote to Timothy he was giving basic but vital information about what was valuable for believers. Paul said to guard the deposit that was entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit. In Romans 8:16, Paul describes the Spirit as every Christian's deposit. It sounds like the "guarding" in this passage is a decision. We have the valuable Holy Spirit. We get to treasure and guard it by our choices to keep trusting, believing and asking. That's a deposit that gives eternal rewards! Praise. God!
