The word miracle is in the New Testament 21 times. Sometimes Jesus mentions miracles as a teaching point. (Mark 9:39). On another occasion, others talked about Jesus because of the miracles he performed. (Mark 6:2). Another time we see that Jesus mentioned he couldn't do any miracles because of the people's unbelief (Matt 13:58). While writing to the Corinthians, Paul mentions "miracles" as one of the spiritual gifts (1 Cor 12:10; 1 Cor 12:28). In each case miracles are understood as something completely supernatural. There is even once verse where Paul warns of the lawless one in the end times that will do miracles (2 Thess 2;9).
We all want God to do the extraordinary. The writer of Hebrews observed the grand purpose of miracles in the ministry of Jesus: Heb. 2:4 At the same time, God also testified by signs and wonders, various miracles, and distributions of gifts from the Holy Spirit according to his will. God does miracles and we get to ask for them!
