The word means "last". It has been used in the New Testament to mean "what's left" as in Matthew 5:26 and Matt 20:12. It has also been used by Jesus to refer to the end times. Theologians use the word to define the doctrine of "last things" The word they give is eschatology. It's just a word, but reminds us living in these modern times that an end is in our future. There will be a "last day". Jesus promised to raise believers at the last day. (John 6:39–40, 44, 54; 7:37; 11:24; 12:48) Christian hope is embedded in the believer's future! Praise God!
