As Peter was writing his second letter, he introduced an intersection between the world of time and the world of eternity. The example he gave was profound and deep. His point was to help the believers of the first century to not make decisions about their future in the light of their current circumstances. He appealed to them to look up and trust God with their future. This is even more significant two thousand years later. In a divided culture, where truth is debated, God's word stands firm. Let's let Peter declare it:
2Pet. 3:8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. God's facts stand true for all time.
