Samuel knew what to say because he listened. Hanna had prayed that the Lord would bless her with a son. God answered that prayer. Samuel was in the tabernacle because Hanna had dedicated him to the Lord. This unique and private education would change the direction of Samuel for the rest of his life. The Bible declares Samuel literally grew up in the presence of the Lord!. One night while he was sleeping he heard someone call his name and he answered:
1Sam. 3:4 Then the LORD called Samuel, and he answered, “Here I am.” Samuel thought it was Eli the first few times he heard it. Who else could it be? Then he listened to the old priest who encouraged him. "Next time, say speak Lord, your servant is listening". Samuel waited, the voice called again, and he gave the right answer. That answer changed history. The Lord is still speaking, may we give the right answer!
