when jesus speaks

It had been 60 years since the ascension of Jesus.  John was on the isle of Patmos.  He was in the Spirit on the Lord's day.  God began to show Him the future.  I think it's so wonderful that the first person He noticed was the "Son of Man".  John would have recognized His face. Then He spoke.
Rev. 1:8        “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."  Glory!  It's in His own self-description we discover the full revelation the Bible gives from the Old Testament to the New.  He Lives today! The One who was, and is, and is to come!  Praise God!
